As well as possessing excellent technical skills and  client care, repeat business is crucial to our clients success, so you’ll need to be able to develop and nurture relationships with clients (both internal and external).

Responsibilities and Accountabilities

• Provide engineering services design and consultancy work  under the direction of the line manager or project lead.
• Produce design deliverables (including calculations, specifications, and reports), site surveys, construction stage duties, client liaison with members of design/construction teams, costing and ensure progress against the project brief
• Check deliverables produced by colleagues to ensure engineering designs meet appropriate quality and compliance controls, project brief and customer requirements.
• Collaborate closely with multi-disciplinary members of the design team to deliver safe, efficient, and buildable solutions.
• Contribute to the preparation of enquiry plans, tender reviews, fee estimate sheets, scopes of work and change controls as required

Experience and Qualifications

• Membership of Institute of Chemical Engineers
• Chartered Engineer Status (or working towards this)
• Experience of both concept / front end design, and detailed design
• Experience of developing Process Flow Diagrams, P&ID’s, equipment datasheets and specifications
• Experience of standard process engineering calculations including pressure drop / pump sizing, control valve sizing, heat transfer, and heat & mass balance calculations

Due business growth and and incoming projects, our client is looking to recruit a Senior OHL Designer Engineer for UK operations. With our client having various offices across the UK, they are happy for the successful individual to be based in any UK location within a hybrid capacity. 

The candidate should have experience in the production of all designs, calculations, reports & drawings associated with the new build or refurbishment of overhead line projects from 11kV – 400kV. You will also have experience in design of OHL with PLS-CADD and PLS-Tower.

Responsibilities

• Produce detailed OHL design packages, compliant to required client and national technical standards.
• Prepare calculations and technical/equipment specification documentation.
• Undertake FEED stage projects, including production of technical reports and presentations.
• Maintain compliance to CDM Regulations and all other legal and regulatory requirements associated with the nature of substation/P&C and electrical system design.
• Manage the delivery of projects in accordance with Management Systems to meet time, quality, budgetary and health and safety targets.
• Overall OHL design with PLS-CADD in accordance with BS-EN 50341.

Skills & Experience

• Experience in HV OHL engineering design in the electricity transmission & distribution sector
• Thorough understanding of current Construction (Design & Management) Regulations.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and optimise electrical distribution networks ranging from 400V to 33kV, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.

This will cover the production of Substation primary layouts, primary equipment specifications, equipment rating calculations, busbar short circuit force calculations, earthing studies, impressed voltage calculations, production of material specification lists, fault calculations, P&C wiring diagrams, protection requirements and system modelling. You must also have a reasonable level of maths and science, preferably from a power engineering background and have good communication skills. In this role, you will manage the production through a robust checking process but must also develop drawing office standards, mentor and train the CAD technicians and when work dictates support the actual delivery of the outputs.
